If we are all honest with ourselves, it’s easy at times to forget why we want to become physical therapists.

In my own experience, I have found that during longer stretches of didactic coursework I have questioned whether this is really what I want to do. The assignments, weekly exams, and currently the daily Zoom calls for lectures and group discussions, can result in a narrow focus only on what is at hand. In fact, this might be one of the most challenging times to remember the why.

As I write this I’m on my campus at Des Moines University, sitting in an empty physical therapy classroom. Just me and a skeleton, and he doesn’t talk much.

It is times like these when we need to look up and broaden our gaze to remember why we want to become physical therapists in the first place.
