Physical therapists (PTs) provide a variety of services to patients with many types of health care coverage. Each payer—including Medicare, Medicaid, workers' compensation, and commercial (often called "third-party" or "private") insurers—has its own rules for billing and reimbursement. This includes cases in which patients pay out of pocket and file their own claims for reimbursement.
Collecting Payment For Noncovered Services
You can accept cash for a number of services that are not covered under most insurance plans as long as the service is within the physical therapist's scope of practice. (Payer policies vary, so it is important to verify whether each payer covers a specific service.)
