Advances in regenerative medicine allow for the restoration of injured, diseased, or degenerated tissues to a more functional state.
Regenerative therapies are particularly important to the field of physical therapy as we strive to improve an individual's functional capacity, which is often limited by persistent deficits stemming from processes such as scar tissue deposition, reduced muscle mass or loss of innervation.
By partnering with technologies that regenerate tissues (including bone, muscle, cartilage, ligaments, and nerves), therapists — through rehabilitation — may be able to increase the functional gains made by patients following injury or disease, and ultimately improve their quality of life.
