Urogenital Distress Inventory (UDI)
Summary
What it measures:
Measures symptoms on three subscales (Shumaker et al, 1994): 1. Irritative 2. Stress 3. Obstructive/Discomfort Originally studied on community-dwelling women with urinary incontinence, but also used for women with lower urinary tract complaints, attending continence clinics, or on a surgical waiting list for urinary symptoms (Shumaker et al, 1994; Ross et al, 2006). Purpose: To study impact on urinary symptoms on quality of life and ability to participate in everyday activities (Shumaker et al, 1994; Ross et al, 2006). UDI-6 responses predicted whether stress UI, bladder outlet obstruction, and detrusor overactivity were found on urodynamic testing (Ross et al, 2006)
Target Population:
Women with urinary incontinence (UI) specific to lower urinary tract dysfunction and genital prolapse.
Developed to address a gap in UI literature and a lack of a UI-specific measure of health-related QOL. In the original article, the UDI was intended to be used with the Incontinence Impact Questionnaire (Shumaker et al, 1994).
