Incontinence Impact Questionnaire (IIQ)
Summary
What it measures:
Effect of symptoms on quality of life and participation; 4 subscales (Shumaker et al, 1994): 1.Physical activity 2. Travel 3.Social 4.Emotional
Target Population:
Women with urinary incontinence specific to lower urinary tract dysfunction and genital prolapse
Score using the following steps (Shumaker et al, 1994):
- Calculate mean of all items
- Subtract mean by 1, then multiply by 100/3 (0-100 range)
- Sum of 4 subscales
Professional Association Recommendations:
Developed to address a gap in UI literature and a lack of a UI-specific measure of health-related QOL. In the original article, the IIQ was intended to be used with Urogenital Distress Inventory (Shumaker et al, 1994).
