Total Knee Arthroplasty (TKA)

In total knee arthroplasty (TKA), or total knee replacement, specific compartments of the knee joint are replaced with artificial parts. The most common reason for TKA is osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee joint. (1) Although there is no radiological consensus regarding indications for TKA, there is general agreement that TKA is indicated when the patient can no longer tolerate the pain of OA. (2)
