APTA's Leadership Congress, coming Aug. 12-16, will bring together its leadership groups — Board of Directors, House of Delegates, standing committees, component leaders, and more — for a gathering aimed at advancing the association. And although actual attendance is limited, there are several viewing and participation opportunities, with most open to everyone.
Want to check in on the event? Here are four opportunities.
1. Challenge Your Thinking
Stephanie J. Creary, PhD, is an organizational behavior scholar whose research examines inclusive leadership, relationships across differences, and organizational change, and she has some thoughts about APTA and the profession. Don't miss her keynote address to the plenary session of the APTA Leadership Congress, available for live viewing on Aug. 13 at 4:30 p.m. ET. A recording of the address will be made available later.
Get Inspired
APTA's annual H.P. Maley Lecture has a reputation for featuring forward-thinking, sometimes provocative presentations from some of physical therapy’s thought leaders, and this year is no exception. Join Susan Whitney, PT, PhD, FAPTA, on Aug. 14 at 7 p.m. ET, for her lecture titled "Exercise Is Our Medicine" — a call for PTs and PTAs to pair their unique approach to care with the opportunities offered by technology and new ways of using data. Can't watch live? A recording will be available afterwards.
Keep Up With Your Association
As it has for several years, APTA will livestream the open sessions of the association's House of Delegates, its primary policy-making body. The livestream, available to APTA members only, will run 8:30 a.m-5 p.m. ET on Aug. 14, and 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. on Aug. 15. It's a great opportunity to gain firsthand insight on APTA's approach to a variety of important issues for the profession.
Move!
It's (thankfully) not all about sitting in meetings: The APTA Leadership Congress also aims to get people moving with the inaugural APTA 5K Run/Walk/Move event beginning at 7 p.m. ET Aug. 13. The in-person version of the race will take place along the fast, flat, and historic Potomac Yard Trail, starting and ending at APTA Centennial Center at 3030 Potomac Ave., in Alexandria, Virginia. If you're in the area, come and join in the fun; if you're not, register anyway, and participate virtually. Entry fee is $50 with all proceeds going to the PT Fund, the program that provides support to the Dimensions of Diversity and Minority Scholarship funds. The event is sponsored in part by Brooks Running and HPSO.
