As in most professions, physical therapists were not spared from the cascading effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and the enormous disruption in the workforce.

For therapists who remained employed during the initial months of the global pandemic, questions about personal safety and how to continue the delivery of therapy services, remained unanswered.

As a result, most physical therapists pivoted to telehealth as a temporary solution.

Since March 2020, telehealth has become the safest and most feasible platform in which to provide health care across multiple professions, including physical therapy.

However, this seismic shift in the delivery of services has forced rapid changes, with physical therapists under enormous pressure to integrate a virtual model while maintaining knowledge of evolving telehealth regulations.
