What is the ethical responsibility of a physical therapist (PT) who sees movement dysfunction in an individual but is not in a therapeutic relationship with that person and hasn't been consulted professionally? Consider the following scenario.
Occupational Hazard
Jillian and Karen have been "BFFs" since elementary school. They seemingly did just about everything together from the moment they bonded over peanut butter-and-jelly sandwiches in the school cafeteria when they were 7 through their undergraduate years attending the same college. Their physical paths diverged for a few years when Karen pursued an engineering degree out of state while Jillian continued on at their undergraduate school to earn her doctorate in physical therapy. The 2 women kept in daily contact during that time, however, and they now live and work in the same city, near where they'd gone to college together. Their friendship in adulthood is as strong as it's ever been.
