The Federal Government Affairs Leadership Award was established in 2003 to recognize outstanding achievements by APTA members in advancing the association's federal government affairs objectives and activities.

Eligibility Requirements
- Physical therapists or physical therapist assistants who are current members in good standing of the association.
Criteria for Selection
Nominees for this award must demonstrate:
- Success in establishing relationships with members of Congress measured by support for legislation, ability to communicate directly with the member.
- Active involvement in and contributions to APTA federal government affairs activities.
- Leadership in grassroots recruiting, organizing, and coordination.
- Leadership in local press and media education and activities.
- Support from APTA and component leadership.
- Significant individual contributions and exemplary leadership in furthering the Association's Federal Government Affairs activities including:
- Developing a professional relationship with a Member of Congress.
- Hosting clinic/facility tours and briefings for Members of Congress and their staff.
- Actively participating in congressional election campaigns.
- Recruiting, organizing, and assisting other APTA members in becoming more effective advocates and increasing the overall effectiveness the Association's grassroots advocacy efforts.
Submission Requirements
To nominate an APTA member for this award, complete and submit:
- the nomination form,
- a letter of nomination, and
- other supporting documentation, such as letters of support, detailing why the nominee should receive the award.
What Recipients Receive
An award will be presented to the recipient by APTA's Board of Directors at an APTA national event, and an official announcement will appear in an association publication.
Submit a Nomination
The nominations call for the Honors and Awards program is open Sept. 1- Dec. 1. Component presidents, executives PPAC, Federal Affairs Liaisons and PTPAC Trustees may submit a nomination by Dec. 1; late submissions will not be considered. Selected recipients and their nominators will be notified in May.
